Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is set to be out for weeks after his injury situation was revealed, MySportDab reports.
Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones’ partnership in the 3-1 defeat against Manchester City could be a sign of things to see more often for fans under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Maguire, who United signed for £80million in the summer, missed the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg last night after pulling up an injury in the goalless FA Cup draw against Wolves.
Coach Solskjaer refused to substitute Maguire and he went on to play the full 90 minutes which could have made the injury worse.
MySportDab understands scans today revealed the extent of the injury damages which showed a tear at the top of his hip.
According to The Telegraph, the England international’s issue is not as simple as first thought, and with Tuanzebe, Bailly not full ready to return to Premier League action, United are short at the back.
The Norwegian boss said of the injury on Saturday: “We don’t know – it’s not going to be a long injury hopefully.
“So I’m not sure if he will ready this weekend but we shall see.”
Manchester United have struggled for consistency this season and look certain to face the coming weeks without their most important central defender.
The injury crisis could force Chief Ed Woodward to complete January deals despite the fact they spent big in the summer, with Solskjaer suggesting that he wants at least two new players.
“We are a very young team and with the injuries we’ve had and illnesses it shows clear and buying players is something we’re looking at,” he said.
“If there is something for us, I have the backing to get things done but if it isn’t the right option right we won’t do anything.”
Manchester United have lost six of their 21 Premier League matches so far this as they struggle to reach the Champions League spots with Chelsea in fourth.
