Tennis Star Serena Williams has won her first title in three years after defeating Pegula to win the Auckland Open, MySportDab reports.
Williams played through a difficult match against Pegula in the frustrating sun of Auckland.
The win means the American Champion has now won a title in each of the past four decades – setting herself up for the Australian Open.
Williams secured her first win since becoming a mother with a perfect two-set win over Pegula, who did put up a good fight and now has the full confidence ahead of the first major of the year.
The 23-time Grand Slam Champion won 6-3, 6-4 in a stunning performance.
Speaking after the game, Serena pledged to donate her winnings to help the Australian fire cause and will sign auction off each dress she has worn throughout this week.
Speaking in Auckland, she said: “For me it’s great – I’ve been playing Australia for over 20 years, and it’s been so hard see everything happening in Australia with all the fires and issues.
“People have lost their lives, homes, and so much more has happened.
“I decided from the beginning that for every game I play I’ll donate the earnings, and also donate all my prize money – so thank you guys.”
MySportDab understands The Australian Open begins on 20th January, with Williams aiming to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
Williams won her first WTA title back in February 1999, when she defeated France’s Amelie Mauresmo at the Open Gaz de France.
