Chelsea are warned against transfer in a big-money striker by Joe Cole, with the Blues urged to keep faith with Tammy Abraham and make sure that his development isn’t scrubby.

Frank Lampard took the choice to trust youth upon inheritable  the managerial reins at Stamford Bridge last summer as he looked to influence a two-window transfer ban.

That has since been upraised, liberating Lampard to spend in January if the correct targets may be known.

It has been recommended that Chelsea might look to feature another frontman to their ranks , with Olivier Giroud being heavily coupled with a move elsewhere.

Cole hopes that’s not a sign that Abraham can slip go into reverse the pecking order, with the 22-year-old having registered fourteen goals in twenty seven games this season.

The former Blues star told BT Sport : “Well, you actually don’t ought to replace him.

“I assume he has created himself irreplaceable as a member of the group at Chelsea as a result of he’s a young lad who epitomises what the club is about.

“He is aware of the club and that’s while not the things that he’s doing on the pitch. On the pitch he’s been fantastic, he’s scored goals, he’s LED the road, he’s been a revelation.

“But what Chelsea, and any of the highest clubs can do, is they can continually look what’s around: ‘Can we improve?’

“So i feel unless they’re about to usher in somebody who goes to vie with him, to not go higher than him or below him as a youngster – somebody to vie with him.

“I believe he will [be Chelsea’s long-run striker].

The mentality, the mindset and once you’ve got a young player with them 2 attributes – forget the speed, the strength, technical ability – if you’ve got those 2 attributes, you’ll be able to work thereupon and he’s simply got higher and higher.

“We’ve seen it with our own eyes however he’s got higher over the last 3, four years. He’s been a revelation.”

Abraham is tied to a contract at Stamford Bridge through to the summer of 2022.

Chelsea are keen to rewarded his progress within the current campaign with contemporary terms, having already tied a number of alternative academy graduates to new deals.
