Leeds United 1-0 Tottenham: Noah Okafor Nets Late Winner

Leeds United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tottenham at the Elland Road Stadium, thanks to a late goal from substitute Noah Okafor after 90 minutes of action played.

The result ended the host’s six-game winless run and brought Spurs winning streak to an end. Daniel Farke’s side produced a much-improved second-half performance to take all three points in an entertaining Premier League contest.

Okafor came off the bench to score the decisive goal in the 79th minute, with Harry Wilson providing the assist which went on to claim all massive points for the host.

Tottenham started the game with more possession and looked dangerous in the early stages. Leeds United, however, remained organised and tried to make the most of their opportunities.

Ethan Ampadu had an early effort for the home side after receiving a pass from Sean Longstaff, but his shot from outside the penalty area went wide.

Spurs responded with chances of their own. Pedro Porro set up Mohammed Kudus, whose effort from outside the box was saved by goalkeeper James Trafford.

Omar Marmoush also tested Trafford with a shot from inside the penalty area, but the Leeds goalkeeper made another important stop.

The first half also produced two yellow cards. Micky van de Ven was booked in the 15th minute, while midfielder Sean Longstaff received a yellow card in the 22nd minute.

The biggest talking point before the break involved Jayden Bogle and Mathys Tel. Bogle made a dangerous challenge on the Tottenham forward, catching his Achilles.

VAR reviewed the incident, but the Leeds defender escaped a red card. Tel was unable to continue and was eventually substituted as play carried on.

There was also a controversial penalty appeal involving Mateus Fernandes, but the referee and VAR did not award a spot-kick to Leeds. The teams went into the break with the score still 0-0.

The host returned for the second half with a different approach. Daniel Farke made tactical changes, switching to a back four and pushing Jayden Bogle further forward.

The changes helped the home team put more pressure on Spurs. The hosts began creating better opportunities with Dominic Calvert-Lewin coming close to breaking the deadlock.

Ao Tanaka also had an opportunity to put Leeds United ahead. Lukas Nmecha threatened the away side goal, with one of his efforts hitting the post.

Tottenham also had opportunities to score after Conor Gallagher came close, but Leeds continued to defend well. Antonin Kinsky was also called into action, making an important save to deny Sean Longstaff after a dangerous attack.

Farke then made a decisive double substitution, bringing on Noah Okafor and Harry Wilson for Tanaka and Nmecha. The two substitutes quickly made an impact in the encounter.

The host finally found the breakthrough in the 79th minute through Okafor, just 97 seconds after coming onto the pitch. The move started with a throw-in from Melvin Bard on the left.

Wilson controlled the ball inside the penalty area before setting up Okafor, who took a touch and fired a low shot across Kinsky into the bottom-left corner. The goal sent Elland Road into celebration and gave Leeds a valuable 1-0 lead.

VAR briefly checked a possible handball involving Wilson during the move, but the goal was allowed to stand. Tottenham pushed forward in search of an equaliser during the closing stages.

Jan Paul van Hecke came close with a header in stoppage time, but James Trafford produced an important save to keep Leeds in front.

Spurs could not find a way through, and the referee eventually brought the encounter to an end with Leeds United celebrating a deserved 1-0 victory against Tottenham.

The victory was an important result for the host, who had been struggling for consistency in recent weeks. The three points ended their six-game winless run and moved them above Tottenham into eighth place with 14 points.

Spurs, meanwhile, suffered a disappointing defeat after winning their previous three league matches. They remained on 12 points and missed the opportunity to continue their climb up the Premier League table.

For Leeds, Okafor’s impact off the bench and Farke’s tactical changes were the biggest positives. Spurs will be disappointed with their missed opportunities and the inability to respond after conceding.

Leeds United will take plenty of confidence from this result, while Tottenham will look to bounce back to winning ways under their manager Roberto de Zerbi.
