Chelsea have come to a decision which could see Alejandro Garnacho bid his farewell to the club he joined at the beginning of last season depending on the right offer.
Following an underwhelming debut season in West London, reports confirm that Chelsea has officially opened the door to a permanent exit for the 22-year-old Argentine winger.
Garnacho’s arrival at Chelsea last summer was met with considerable optimism. Having transitioned from Manchester United, a move spurred by a public fallout with former manager Ruben Amorim.

The youngster was tipped to become a cornerstone of the Blues’ attack. However, the reality of the 2025/26 campaign proved difficult for both the player and the club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, he confirmed the pending exit for the Argentina international saying: “Alejandro Garnacho can leave Chelsea this summer and he’s not untouchable.
“In case of good proposal on permanent deal, Chelsea ready to open doors to exit with initial movements started in terms of clubs keen.
“Garnacho can leave after just one season at Chelsea.
Despite making 43 appearances across all competitions, Garnacho struggled to find consistency, netting only a handful of goals and providing limited assists.
Under the rotating leadership of Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, the winger found it challenging to cement a starting role.
As Chelsea transitions into a new era under manager Xabi Alonso, the hierarchy appears to be prioritizing squad efficiency over experimental development, leading to the decision to move the Argentine forward on.
Chelsea continues to streamline its personnel to maintain financial stability and squad balance. Garnacho, having been excluded from the not for sale list, has become a clear candidate for a permanent departure.
With the recent £40 million arrival of Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon, competition for wide attacking positions has intensified. Xabi Alonso’s tactical setup appears to require specific attributes that, according to recent critiques, the player has struggled to demonstrate during his time in London.
The London club is reportedly seeking a significant fee for the winger. While early figures suggested a high asking price potentially reaching as much as £60 million in a dream scenario, sources indicate that an offer in the region of £40 million would likely force the board’s hand.
A potential sale would not only provide Chelsea with essential capital to pursue their primary midfield targets, such as Adam Wharton, but also trigger a notable windfall for his former club, Manchester United.
The deal struck last summer included a 10% sell-on clause, meaning the Red Devils stand to benefit financially from any profit the Blues make on the sale.
Currently, the Blues remains firm in its stance, as the club is only interested in a permanent transfer and is currently uninterested in loan proposals, despite reported interest from Serie A sides like Napoli.
For the winger, the coming weeks represent a pivotal moment in his young career. After failing to replicate the electric form that once made him a standout at Old Trafford, the winger faces the prospect of a fresh start elsewhere.
Whether he finds a suitor willing to meet Chelsea’s valuation remains the burning question. As Xabi Alonso begins to shape his squad, the departure of Garnacho could be the first of several high-profile exits as the club looks to clear the decks and embark on a new chapter for the 2026/27 season.
