Illan Meslier has been officially unveiled as Arsenal new signing in the goalkeeping department with Kepa expected to make a move elsewhere this summer.
The 26-year-old arrives at the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer following the conclusion of his seven-year tenure with Leeds United.
The acquisition marks Arsenal’s second major signing of the summer transfer window, following the permanent arrival of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.

Meslier, who has committed to a two-year deal with an option for a third, brings a wealth of experience to Mikel Arteta’s side.
Having made 215 appearances for Leeds United across all competitions, including 107 in the Premier League, Meslier is well-acquainted with the demands of English football.
During his time at Elland Road, he kept 70 clean sheets and played a pivotal role in the club’s promotion campaigns.
Expressing his delight at the move, Meslier told the official club website: “I’m extremely happy. It’s a great day for me because I have just joined the champions.
“For me, Arsenal is the biggest club in England.
“I’m very happy and very proud to join Arsenal. I cannot wait to show the love that I’ve got for this badge, and I cannot wait to win trophies with this team, becuase this is a club that needs to lift trophies again and again.”
Meslier arrives to provide competition for Arsenal’s established Number one, David Raya, who earned the Premier League Golden Glove award during the 2025-26 season.
The new goalkeeper will wear the number 30 shirt and is expected to integrate quickly into the squad as pre-season preparations ramp up. The goalkeeping hierarchy at the Emirates remains a point of interest for supporters.
With Kepa Arrizabalaga currently serving as an understudy, his future at the club remains a subject of speculation, as the Spaniard has been linked with a potential move away.
Meanwhile, the addition of Meslier is expected to facilitate the loan departure of young prospect Tommy Setford, allowing the teenager to gain essential first-team minutes elsewhere.
For Meslier, the move represents a fresh start after a challenging final season at Elland Road, where he found his playing time limited. The goalkeeper has made his primary objectives clear during his interview.
The Gunners are setting the stage for a busy August. Before they launch their Premier League title defense against newly promoted Coventry City on August 21, they face a big Community Shield clash against Manchester City on August 16.
With the addition of a proven Premier League talent like Meslier, Arsenal have demonstrated their intent to maintain the depth and quality required to compete on multiple fronts.
As the club aims to retain their league crown and challenge for silverware in domestic and European cup competitions, the arrival of the talented goalkeeper provides Arteta with a reliable and hungry option between the sticks.
