Late Rutter Goal Breaks Tottenham Heart In 2-2 Draw Against Brighton

Spurs suffered massive setback in their quest to avoid relegation after a late goal from Georginio Rutter, MySportDab reports.

Xavi Simons had scored a rocket thinking it was the winner, but it wasn’t meant to be as Tottenham failed to maintain their lead.

It was a great atmosphere at the Spurs stadium as both Tottenham and Brighton kicked off their clash with maximum three points at stake.

The Seagulls took control of play for a while until Spurs took charge dominating play and pressing forward.

Brighton and Hove Albion looked sharp while doing their job. Tackles were flying in as the referee was also involved with the action.

The first 10 minutes was all about both teams trying each other out to find a weak point to explore for an opener.

Rodrigo Bentancur tried his luck in the 10th minute of play, but his direct free kick sailed wide off the target.

Tottenham were not slowing down any time soon as the match was more important to them after dropping into the relegation zone.

Both teams could not make anything much happen for themselves as the ball possession got a bit closer but Spurs maintained more percent.

Three quick opportunities came back to back through Conor Gallagher, Micky van de Ven and Randal Kolo Muani which all went wide.

Yves Bissouma was shown a yellow card in the 34th minute. The referee decided on awarding a card after he committed a foul by tripping Yasin Ayari

The ball possession later switch in favor of the visitors who were holding 53 percentage. Xavi Simons cross in the 39th minute successful met Pedro Porro who opened the scoring.

Spurs made it 1-0 from the Pedro Porro goal which was a wonderful header. Xavi Simons nearly had a goal in the 41st minute, but his strike hit the woodwork.

The first half carried on until Pascal Gross successfully finds Kaoru Mitoma who scored a volley with his left to make the scoreline 1-1.

Both teams were leveled after 45 minutes of action. Both teams had so much to play for in the second half which wasn’t an easy one at all.

Jan Paul van Hecke had an opportunity in the 47th minute, but his header wasn’t good enough to produce anything tangible.

Yasin Ayari and Kaoru Mitoma both had shots on goal blocked in quick succession. Roberto De Zerbi was shown a yellow card in the 53rd minute for dissent.

Yves Bissouma was removed in the 57th minute and replaced by Archie Gray in a tactical substitution for Spurs. Randal Kolo Muani was also removed and replaced by Mathys Tel.

The match carried on with Tottenham holding 48 percent of the ball possession, while Brighton and Hove Albion had 52 percent.

Kevin Danso was shown a yellow card in the 66th minute after he went a bit too far to pull down Kaoru Mitoma.

Rodrigo Bentancur was taken off in the 67th minute and replaced by Joao Palhinha in another tactical change from Roberto De Zerbi.

Xavi Simons tried a direct shot on target, but the keeper saved it in the 68th minute. Danny Welbeck had his 72nd minute effort being saved by the goalkeeper.

Brighton made two substitutions in the 76 minutes which saw Danny Welbeck being replaced by Georginio Rutter and Jack Hinshelwood for Matthew O’Riley.

Lucas Bergvall delivered a 77th minute assist which saw Xavi Simons outside strike with his right foot beating the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

The lead was a dream for Spurs as all they needed was to ensure they kept things the same way until final whistle.

Jan Paul van Hecke clever delivery saw Georginio Rutter scored with a left foot strike which came in the 90+5 minutes which made things 2-2.

The match carried on with nothing more as Tottenham suffered another setback in their quest to avoid being relegated to the Championship after a draw.
