Barcelona have been dealt a heavy blow with Lamine Yamal set to miss the rest of the season.
Yamal picked up a hamstring issue during the club’s 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo last night, and was subbed off, with Swedish youngster Roony Bardghji coming on.
Amid growing concerns about the Spaniard’s fitness after the injury blow, Barcelona have confirmed that he had suffered a hamstring injury on his left leg and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
“Tests have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg. He will miss the remainder of the league,” the statement reads.
Barcelona opened a nine-point gap on top of the La Liga table after the 1–0 victory, further strengthening their bid to retain the league title.
However, the absence of Lamine Yamal could prove a significant blow to their La Liga title hopes, with the league entering crucial stages.

Prior to this injury below, Lamine Yamal tallied 28 La Liga appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring 16 goals plus 11 assists. This marks a significant leap from his last season’s tally of nine goals and 13 assists in 35 matches.
While Barcelona prepares to restructure for a tight title-race run-in without the youngster, attention has already been turned to the player’s chances of recovering from the injury for the 2026 World Cup.
Barcelona assuaged fears of a potential lengthy injury spell for the youngster in their club statement, announcing that he is expected to be available for the 2026 World Cup. However, the duration of his recovery has yet to be determined.
Spain kick off their 2026 World Cup campaign on June 15, taking on Cape Verde, three weeks after the end of the 2025-26 La Liga season. This means Lamine Yamal must recover at least a few weeks before the tournament to make La Roja’s World Cup squad.
Meanwhile, Yamal’s injury has deepened Barcelona’s injury crisis this season. Prior to the blow, Blaugrana had Marc Bernal (ankle injury), Andreas Christensen (knee injury), and Raphinha (thigh blow) all sidelined.
Cancelo was also forced off the Celta Vigo match in the first half due to injury, with Alejandro Balde replacing him. The La Liga title hopefuls travel to face Getafe in their next game and will look to make light of the deepening injury issues with another strong performance.
However, their biggest test in the run-in comes against title challengers Real Madrid in the El Clasico on Matchday 35 at Camp Nou, with a win likely to settle the race for the coveted domestic league trophy.
