FC Barcelona Weigh Future of Marcus Rashford as Permanent Transfer Plans Uncertain

FC Barcelona are reportedly reassessing their plans to sign Marcus Rashford permanently from Manchester United, with club president Joan Laporta confirming that several options remain on the table, MySportDab Reports.

Rashford joined the Spanish champions on loan earlier this season and made an immediate impact at the Camp Nou, registering 15 goal contributions in his first 24 appearances across all competitions.

His strong early performances appeared to put Barcelona on course to activate the €30 million (£26 million) purchase clause included in the agreement with Manchester United.

However, Laporta has now revealed that the Catalan giants are evaluating alternative arrangements ahead of the summer transfer window.

“We could extend the loan further; it depends on what Deco wants,” Laporta said in an interview with Jijantes, referring to Barcelona sporting director Deco. “There are options: exercising part of the purchase option with United, and we’ll see about the rest. We’re studying the deal.”

The uncertainty comes during a dip in form for the England international. Since the start of 2026, Rashford has managed just five goal contributions in 14 appearances, with his last involvement coming in a 2–1 Copa del Rey win over Albacete Balompié in February.

Barcelona are also reportedly considering a major summer move for Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid, which could influence their financial priorities.

For Manchester United, the situation still presents multiple positive outcomes. The club could receive the agreed transfer fee if Barcelona proceed with the purchase, renegotiate a higher price if another loan is agreed, or potentially welcome Rashford back to Old Trafford.

Reports suggest interim manager Michael Carrick would be open to reintegrating the forward should he return next season.
