Xabi Alonso Confirms Kylian Mbappe Injury Update Ahead of Madrid Derby

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed an update on the state of Kylian Mbappe’s injury ahead of the team’s crunch Super Cup semi-final showdown against city rivals Atletico Madrid on Thursday, MySportDab reports.

Los Blancos will jet to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia for the crunch tie against the arch-rivals with some key players remaining a doubt for the match due to injuries, and leading the list is their talismanic forward Kylian Mbappe who has been sidelined with a knee injury.

Amid uncertainties surrounding the French forward’s availability for the Madrid Derby, Xabi Alonso eased the doubts with a positive report on the player’s fitness.

According to him, Mbappe remains in contention to return for the clash, but must be given the green light by the medical team before joining the Jeddah trip.

According to close sources, Mbappe was already nursing a knee issue before he aggravated it towards the end of 2025, leading to his absence from the Real Betis clash last week.

Initial reports suggest he was expected to be out for three weeks before full recovery, but an emergency return that could have him make the Jeddah trip hasn’t been ruled out.

Mbappe remains a nemesis forward for opponents in the Los Blancos colours and his imminent absence is likely to impact the team’s fortunes in the four-team tournament in Saudi Arabia.

He is top of the La Liga goalscorers’ chat this season with 18 goals in 18 matches for Real Madrid and has added nine in the Champions League for the team.
