Manchester United are reportedly considering re-signing Mason Greenwood back from Olympique Marseille, MySportDab reports.
United sold Greenwood to the Ligue side in summer 2024 for €31.6m after he returned from a stellar loan shift with La Liga side Getafe.
It’s understood that retaining Greenwood on a new contract with United was one of the possible options on the table after he returned from Getafe.
However, the club had to take a safer route of sanctioning his permanent transfer to avoid PR crisis due to allegations of assault and rape on his name.
Notably, the Old Trafford were still banking on the English winger after his transfer to Marseille as they agreed both a buy-back and sell-on clause on the deal.
Greenwood has lived up and even exceeded expectations with Olympique Marseille. He has scored 42 goals in 62 appearances for the club and is leading the Ligue 1 top scorers’ chart this season with 12 goals.
This stellar showing has made him a particular forward of interest to top clubs in Europe, with Premier League, Serie and La Liga clubs all link to a move for him.
United have reportedly now joined the queue of clubs interested in the services of their former forward as they intensify effort to sharpen their attack.
According to multiple reports, members of the club hierarchy are now discussing the possiblity of buying back the winger.
Greenwood signed a five-year contract with Marseille and has established himself as a priority forward. United are unlikely to break even on the negotiation table with Marseille for the services of the former player, who now has three years left on his deal.
