Man United Fans Tear Into Roy Keane For ‘Controversial Carrick Comment’

Roy Keane stirred the pot with what could pass as a controversial take on Michael Carrick after Man United’s 3–2 away win over Arsenal on Sunday, MySportDab reports.

We reported earlier that Keane still remains doubtful of Carrick’s chances should the latter be handed a permanent contract as Man United manager at the end of the season.

Masterminding back-to-back wins against Premier League heavyweights – Manchester City and Arsenal – Carrick has not only laid down a major marker, but triggered conversation on whether he isn’t United’s best bet for a permanent managerial offer at the end of the season.

Recall United handed the former Middlesbrough boss a short-term contract till the end of the season and was charged to lead the club back to the Champions League after Ruben Amorim’s sack.

Two matches in charge, Carrick hasn’t only delivered, but exceeded expectations, firmly bringing United back in contention for a top-four finish.

For most fans, should he eventually secure Champions League football for the club, he will be the most qualified for the job at the end of the season.

However, United legends like Roy Keane do beg to differ, insisting Carrick’s managerial CV is not good enough to qualify him for a permanent Man United contract.

Responding to Micah Richards’ take that Carrick could be the best option for United in the long-term, Kean said on Sky Sports;

“You’re being silly now. Two great performances but anyone can win two games. Even if they do get into fourth, I still wouldn’t be convinced he’s the man for the job. Absolutely not.”

Keane’s comment appears not to sit well with some United fans who took to the comments to register their disapproval.

A fan wrote, ”This agenda against Michael Carrick is infuriating. Give him a chance.”

Another parroted Keane’s statement saying; “Anyone can win two games. Amorim couldn’t though.”

Another said;

“Michael Carrick is still undefeated as a Man United manager. Give him his flowers.”

Another added, “Cry the hell, Carrick will be United’s permanent manager next season.”

The victory over Arsenal on Sunday has seen United move up to fourth in the Premier League standings with 38 points – just one point better than Chelsea at fifth and two above Liverpool at sixth.

They will look to maintain this newfound winning momentum when hosting Fulham at Old Trafford in their next clash.
