Julian Nagelsmann Blames Arne Slot’s Liverpool Tactics For Florian Wirtz Woes

Germany national team manager Julian Nagelsmann has blamed Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s Liverpool tactics for Florian Wirtz’s struggles, MySportDab reports.

Wirtz has yet to find his footing since he arrived Liverpool for a record transfer fee from Bayer Leverkusen.  The Germany international rose to the peak of this career in the 2022-23 Bundesliga campaign when he led Bayer Leverkusen’s record-breaking Bundesliga triumph.

He is also an integral player in Germany’s midfield setup under Julian Nagelsmann. Regarded as one of the best creators in Europe’s top five leagues, Liverpool went all out for his services, rolling out a record £118m for his services last summer.

Now, it appears the Reds have shoot themselves in the leg with the deal. Wirtz has started all of the Merseyside club’s 11 Premier League games this season and is yet to register an assist or a goal.

He particularly came under the wires in the Reds 3-0 drubbing by Manchester City at Etihad in the Premier League at the weekend, with critics lashing out at him for his sub-par delivery in the game.

However, Nagelsmann has absolved the player from the blame and believes Liverpool’s system of play isn’t allowing him to flourish.

“To be honest, the whole situation does not make it easy for him either. The whole club itself is not as stable this year as it was last year. It’s much harder to slip into the team now,’ Nagelsmann said

Wirtz has been a key part of Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany midfield setup. He has been lined up in the teams double-header 2026 UEFA World Cup Qualifiers against Luxembourg and Slovakia in the upcoming November international break.
