Out-of-favour Man United goalkeeper Andre Onana hugged the headlines with his schoolboy error on his Turkish Super Lig debut, MySportDab reports
The 26-year-old made his debut in between the sticks for Trabzonspor away against Fenerbahçe in on Sunday.
He was in for a difficult ride after Trabzonspor were reduced to 10 men just 20 minutes into the game. Defender Okay Yokuşlu, 31, picked up the red card and Trabzonpor found the back of the net 15 minutes later.
Interestingly, Onana came under the wires for his blunder that led to the only goal. He failed to save a low effort and left the rebound for his opponent who then laid it on a platter for EnNeysri to finish off.
However, he still put up a strong performance overall in the match and went home with the Man-of-the-Match award.
The United loanee faced 29 shots in total and made eight brilliant saves. Within the eight saves, were stunning diving stops that kept the scoreline respectable.
He was rated 8.7 – the highest in the game, enough to secure him the MOTM award.
This promising start for the Cameroonian with Trabzonspor marks a bold new chapter for the player away from his travails at Man United.
His fortunes at United took a sharp turn this season under new manager Ruben Amorim who preferred his understudy Altay Bayindir in the sticks for the Red Devils.
While it was not an overly clean start, Onana’s heroics apparently reaffirmed the narrative of underperforming United players doing well after leaving the club.
We reported earlier on out-of-favour forward Rasmus Hojlund getting off to a brilliant start with Napoli by scoring a goal on his debut.
Both players could return to United at the end of the season should their respective clubs decide not to make the deal permanent.
