Heung-min Son Announces Tottenham Exit

Tottenham legend Son has announced his decision to leave the club this summer, MySportDab reports.

The South Korean attacking sensation made this known in the club’s post-match press conference after their 1-0 friendly win over Arsenal on Thursday.

“Before we start the press conference I wanted to say I have decided to leave the club this summer,” he told reporters on Saturday in Seoul.

Further clarifying the circumstances of his decision to leave, the 33-year-old revealed the club is aware of his decision and also helping process his exit.

He also added that his decision stems from his need to take up a new challenge elsewhere after expending 10 years of his contract with the Londoners.

“Respectfully the club is helping me with this decision.”

“I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little bit of change – 10 years is a long time. I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, such a young age. I leave this club as a grown man, a very proud man.”

Son joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2015 and has racked up over 450 appearances for the club, scoring 173 goals. He won his first and only trophy with the team last season following their Europa League final triumph over Manchester United.

He had a year left on his deal with the Lilywhites but was increasingly linked to leaving this summer as the helmsman in the club’s dugout change hands.

Former Brentford manager Thomas Frank emerged as the club’s new boss replacing Ange Postecoglou with Son reportedly said to be out of the Dane’s squad plans for the team.

The duo reportedly resume talks to clarify the player’s future at the club and it is believed this exit decision stems from the outcome of the talks.

According to Fabrizio Romano, MLS club Los Angeles are leading the race for Son and are close to securing a deal for his transfer.
