Tinubu Rewards Super Falcons with National Honours and $100,000 Each After Historic WAFCON Triumph

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday hosted Nigeria’s Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title win in Morocco, MySportDab Reports

Each player received the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a three-bedroom flat, and the Naira equivalent of \$100,000.

Members of the coaching crew were awarded \$50,000 each. Tinubu praised the team for their resilience and courage, calling their triumph “a victory beyond football.”

“You’ve ignited a new flame of hope in millions of Nigerians,” the President said, recalling how the tense final match left him anxious until the final whistle.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, named MVP and Woman of the Tournament, alongside goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, presented the trophy to the President and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Ajibade described the win as “a beacon of hope” for every Nigerian girl with a dream.

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu hailed the Falcons’ courage and unity, emphasizing their impact on young girls across Africa. She also lauded the President’s commitment to sports development.

Additionally, Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, announced a collective donation of N10 million to each player from the 36 state governors.

Earlier, the team was welcomed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport with a traditional water salute. Cultural groups and cheering fans celebrated their return.

Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and NFF President Ibrahim Gusau hailed the team’s determination and national pride.

The Federal Government described the victory as a testament to Nigeria’s unyielding spirit, with the Minister of Information reaffirming commitment to sustained sports investment.

The Super Falcons expressed gratitude and pledged to continue striving for global glory.
