Tottenham Confirm Sack of Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur have ended their collaboration with Ange Postecoglou after two seasons with the club, MySportDab reports.

The Londoners announced the sack of the Aussie tactician in a club statement today;

“Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been believed of his duties,” the statement reads.

“We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club. Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy,” it added

Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou didn’t come as a surprise. There were feelers from sources close to the club that an internal decision had been made to sack the former Celtic manager.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and the club’s hierarchy reportedly lost confidence in the 54-year-old following the team’s poor domestic campaign in the just-concluded season.

Spurs finished 17th in the standings with 38 points, winning just 11 league matches, drawing five and losing 22.

However, they were prolific in the European scene, going all the way to win their first silverware after 17 years following a Europa League final victory over Manchester United in Bilbao.

As also highlighted by the club, the Europa final triumph made Ange Postecoglou the club’s third manager to clinch a European trophy.

Notably, despite Tottenham’s poor run of form  domestically, Postecoglou was hopeful of continuing in the reins as manager next season.

Addressing fans after the Europa League final triumph, he stated that he is hoping to bring more laurels to the team heading into the next season, but will now be looking for a new role elsewhere following this drastic sack decision.

Overall, he took charge of 101 matches as Tottenham manager, won 46 and lost 39.
