FCWC: Seattle Sounders 1-3 Atletico Madrid, Barios Score BRACE! [VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]

Atletico Madrid returned to winning ways in the FIFA Club World Cup with an impressive 3-1 victory over Seattle Sounders in their second fixture in the tournament, MySportDab reports.

The La Liga giants opened their campaign on a disastrous note against PSG, losing by a staggering four-goal margin.

They needed victory over Seattle Sounders to stand a chance of qualifying for the knockouts of the competition after the deadlock against the European champions.

And at Lumen Field on Thursday night, they did it in style, securing an emphatic victory over Seattle Sounders to boost their chances of securing a place in the next round.

It was largely a ding-dong affair with Seattle Sounders giving the European contingents a tough run in the match. They won 47% of the possession and fired more shots (16) than Atletico Madrid.

However, their biggest weakness was curtailing Atletico’s spirited offensives and scissor-edged attacks.  It didn’t take long before Diego Simeone’s side raced into the lead.

Pablo Barios opened the scoring for the team just 11 minutes into proceedings. The goal saw the team go into the break with a narrow lead.

The second half was no different from the first with Atletico Madrid continuing on their ascendant sail.

Just two minutes into the restart, Axel Witsel scored to double the lead for the team but Slovak midfielder Albert Rusnak put one back for Seattle Sounders to halve the deficit three minutes later.

Five minutes after Rusnak’s goal, Barrios scored his second goal of the night to restore Atletico’s 2-0 lead in the game. Proceedings ended with the La Liga side winning 3-1 to bag all three points.
