Arsenal have secured a deal for a defensive midfielder to replace out-of-favour Ghanaian DM Thomas Partey, MySportDab reports.
Defying their usually slow ride in the transfer markets, the Gunners hugged the transfer headlines with an unprecedented transfer raid on Wednesday.
They secured deals for two players and one of which was the intended replacement for Partey, 32.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Londoners, off the deadlock at the negotiation table for Partey’s new contract, submitted an £11m bid to Brentford for Christian Norgaard.
A few hours later, it was confirmed Brentford accepted the offer and personal terms was also settled as Norgaard wanted the move.
The Danish midfielder is expected to fill the void that will be left by the exit of Partey. He is Arsenal’s third signing this summer after Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
While details of his Arsenal contract have yet to be revealed, Norgaard, 31, boasts extensive Premier League experience.
He joined Brentford in 2019 from Serie A side Fiorentina and has made 181 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals.
His strengths lies in his great team play and ability to strike a balance between offensive and defensive play. Nevertheless, whether he will perfectly fit into Thomas Partey’s shoe is a question that can can’t be answered now.
Partey made 130 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, scoring nine goals. He was renowned for his football IQ and insane defensive prowess. Additionally, the Ghanaian was no dwarf in front of goals and is famed for his long-range stunner goals.
He has been linked to a move to Turkey and Saudi Arabia but is reportedly hopeful of continuing his career in the Premier League.
