Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal deserved better following the result of their two-legged Champions League semi-final matchup against PSG, MySportDab reports.
Arsenal lost 3-1 on aggregate to the Ligue 1 champions to crash out of the last four of the competition.
PSG secured an unlikely 1-0 away victory in the first leg to head into the reverse tie at home in Paris with an advantage.
Of course, Luis Enrique’s side didn’t flounder as they completed a double over the Premier League club, winning by another one-goal margin to qualify for the final.
For Mikel Arteta, the result of the match didn’t do Justice to the game as his side were the better side in both legs.
Speaking after the second-leg loss in Paris, Arteta insisted his team were the better side and even PSG themselves have attested to it.
“The best team lost, in my view… especially after 160 minutes”.
“I’m saying that and they [PSG bench] are saying that because they just told me,” he said.
Arteta’s remarks may not beat the contentions. However, Arsenal had a good game against the Ligue 1 giants based on stats.
Notably, the Gunners lost the first 20 minutes of their game in the first leg against the Parisians, conceding in that stretch before they stepped up their game going forward.
In the second leg, they dominated proceedings and pressed high-up the field but were struggling in front of goals.
Meanwhile, PSG, who had limited chances, leveraged the quality in their attacking ranks to make their two biggest chances count and this was enough to secure victory.
The outcome of this match further underscores Arsenal’s immanent on-field challenge under Arteta – the lack of a traditional no.9 to put finishing touches to the team’s attack.
