Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Wins 2024-25 NBA MVP After Historic Season

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been crowned the 2024-25 NBA Most Valuable Player, edging out Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic in a dominant 71-29 vote split, according to TNT, MySportDab Reports.

The Canadian standout becomes the third player in Thunder history to win the award, joining Kevin Durant (2014) and Russell Westbrook (2017).

Gilgeous-Alexander, 26, led the league in scoring with 32.7 points per game, while also averaging 6.4 assists and 5.0 rebounds. He shot nearly 52% from the field and powered the Thunder to a league-best 68 wins and a record-setting scoring margin.

“You try so hard throughout the season to not think about it,” Gilgeous-Alexander told TNT. “But as a kid dreaming about the game, it’s always in the back of your mind. I’m very grateful to be on this side of the ballot.”

Gilgeous-Alexander’s consistency was remarkable. He recorded at least 20 points in 75 games, 30+ in 49, 40+ in 13, and four 50-point outings—the first to achieve that since James Harden in 2018-19.

His only sub-20-point game was an 18-point performance on October 30 against the Spurs. He closed the season with a 72-game streak of 20+ points—the longest such streak in a single season since 1963-64.

Despite Jokic posting career-high averages in points (29.6), rebounds (12.7), and assists (10.2), and logging an NBA-best 34 triple-doubles—including a record-breaking 61-point triple-double—the Serb finished second in voting.

Gilgeous-Alexander credited his teammates for the award: “None of it is possible without the guys behind me. The way we won games this year is probably the main reason I got the award.”

He now eyes a bigger prize, with the Thunder leading the Timberwolves 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals.
