Liverpool have reportedly completed their first summer signing, adding Dutch International Jeremy Frimpong to their ranks, MySportDab reports.
The Premier League champions haven’t waited for the summer transfer window to open officially before getting busy.
The versatile Dutchman has been signed as a response to the departure of long-time right back and club legend Trent Alexander-Arnold. Details of the contract have reportedly been agreed between the player and the club, and the 24-year-old is now set to travel to England to undergo his medical and officially sign the contract with the club. Both parties have settled for a five-year deal till 2030.
The high-flying fullback will undoubtedly be a great addition to Arne Slot’s side. Frimpong has been a great asset to Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side, playing a key role in the team’s achievements. The right back provided a key attacking threat for the German side and played a part in scoring and setting up vital goals for the team.
He has made 48 appearances for Xabi Alonso’s side this season, scoring five goals and adding 12 assists.
Arne Slot will undoubtedly welcome the qualities the Dutchman possesses and will be relieved to have found a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Unlike traditional wing-backs, Jeremy Frimpong is a ball-playing defender. He will be crucial in Liverpool’s expressly attacking style of play.
Arne Slot is said to be a big fan of the Dutch star and will hope to leverage his talent for a strong and formidable defence heading into the next campaign.
