Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has stated two reasons he believes Matheus Cunha will not be a good signing for the club, MySportDab reports.
We gathered from close sources that United have advanced on their deal to sign the Wolves forward.
Personal terms have been reportedly agreed with Cunha offered a five-year contract. However, the Red Devils have yet to cross the final threshold – agreeing terms with Wolves – to complete the transfer.
Wolves value Cunha at £62.5million and it is understood United aren’t disputing the fee but are looking to foot it in instalments due to FFP Rules.
New Man United manager Ruben Amorim is understood to be the driving force behind the club’s push for the 25-year-old’s services as he considers him a perfect mole for his tactical nomenclature.
However, Paul Scholes seems to share a different opinion from the Portuguese. Speaking with the Mail, Scholes said he is not in doubt of Cuhna’s quality, especially his athleticism, but the concern is on where he will fit in coming to United.
”Is he a centre forward or is he a wide player? There’s no doubt that he has quality and of course, it would be nice to sign him, but I worry about where he fits in,” he said.
Scholes’ concerns are not misplaced. Cunha could play as a forward, second striker or even a winger and United have scores of elite-level stars in these categories.
The question is whether these names aren’t in the class of Cunha or not just flourishing in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system.
Nevertheless, despite the concerns, Amorim is expected to be allowed swarthes to build his squad for the next campaign with some United players expected to leave this summer.
