Championships side Burnley are facing a big blow to their Premier League promotion, MySportDab reports.

Burnley were confirmed promoted to the Premier League after they secured victory over Middlesbrough on Championships Matchday 39.

The Clarets sealed their promotion having opened an astonishng gap on the Championships table after the win.

Now, they are facing a big threat to the earned promotion after reports have emerged the fielded a weak team in their Championships matchday 41 clash against Reading.

The match ended in a barren draw against Reading but the club has been accused of fielding a very weak team in the match.

The manager, Vincent Kompany, relaxed most members of the squad having secured promotion to the Premier League.

He reportedly made a huge change in the squad with most of the first team players left out.

Reading, who are battling relegation, ended up picking points against one of the strongest sides in Championships this season.

The Sun reports Huddersfield, who are also battling relegation, were worried and have raised concerns that Burnley, made six strong changes to squad, fielding a weak team that allowed Reading to pick up points.

Now, EFL have reportedly taken up the matter and have written Burnley asking for explanations and have begun investigations.

If Burnley is found guilty, they could face a big point deduction which could topple their earned promotion and delay their promotion till the end of the season.

Meanwhile, the Clarets have maintained they made the said changes to the squad as part of the squad’s rotation plan due to a tight schedule of matches.
