OFFICIAL: Aston Villa Appoint Steven Gerrard As New Manager!

Aston Villa have now appointed Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard as their new manager, MySportDab reports.

Gerrard quit his job at Rangers for a return to the Premier League.

Aston Villa sacked former Coach Dean Smith earlier this month after he oversaw a run of five league defeats in a row.

The poor form leaves Aston Villa very close to the relegation zone in 16th position.

Gerrard has always been Villa’s No 1 target to get the job.

Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens were impressed by the job Gerrard did at Rangers.

A club statement on Twitter read: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce the arrival of Steven Gerrard as our new Head Coach.”

Speaking to Aston Villa’s official website, Gerrard said: ‘Aston Villa is a club with so much history in English football and I am proud to become its new Head Coach.

‘During my talks with Nassef, Wes and the rest of the Board, it was obvious that they have very ambitious plans for the club and I am looking forward to achieve their aims.

‘I want to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to everybody at Glasgow Rangers for giving me the opportunity to manage such a top football club.

‘Winning them a record-breaking 55th league title will always be one of my most special moments as a manager. I wish the players, staff and fans all the very best for the future.’

MySportDab understands that Gerrard’s ultimate goal is to become the next Liverpool manager.

Performing well at Villa could be the final step to his dream job, once Jurgen Klopp leaves at the end of his contract.

Aston Villa will face Gerrard’s former club Liverpool at Anfield on December 11.

This would mark his first return to Merseyside since he left Liverpool in 2015.
