Manchester United have confirmed that Jadon Sancho will leave the club as a free agent at the end of his contract this month, bringing an end to a turbulent four-year spell since his £75m move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
The winger, once seen as a key signing for the club’s long-term project, spent much of his time at Old Trafford away from the first team following a breakdown in his relationship with former manager Erik ten Hag in 2023.

That fallout led to a loan return to Borussia Dortmund, where he played 21 matches and scored three goals during the second half of the 2023-24 season.
Sancho then moved to Chelsea for the 2024-25 campaign, contributing 13 goal involvements in 41 appearances as the London club lifted the Conference League trophy. Despite that impact, Chelsea opted not to activate a permanent deal at the end of the season.
His most recent season was spent at Aston Villa, where he featured 39 times in a campaign that ended with a fourth-place Premier League finish and Europa League success. However, Villa boss Unai Emery remained non-committal about a long-term move, leaving his future uncertain.
Manchester United confirmed his exit alongside Tyrell Malacia in their retained list announcement, having already planned for his departure following years of loan moves and inconsistent involvement.
Sancho’s career since leaving Dortmund has been defined by flashes of quality but a lack of stability, although he did make history by becoming the first player to appear in three consecutive European finals across different competitions.
He is now expected to attract interest from several European clubs, with a return to Borussia Dortmund again being strongly linked as he looks to rebuild his career away from Old Trafford.
