McFarlane Confirms: Colwill & James Ready For Monday Night Action

Chelsea interim head coach confirms massive boost as Reece James and Levi Colwill return to team training ahead of their clash against Nottingham Forest on Monday.

McFarlane has confirmed that the defensive duo are available for selection ahead of this Monday’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

The news comes at a critical juncture for the Blues as they look to capitalize on the momentum of their recent FA Cup success and secure European qualification.

The return of Colwill is particularly significant. After sidelined for much of the season with a serious knee injury, the 23-year-old center-back successfully completed 90 minutes with the Under-21s last week.

While the medical staff has been understandably cautious, McFarlane noted that Colwill has ticked all the necessary boxes in training this week to justify a spot in the senior matchday squad.

Captain Reece James is also set to make his long-awaited return. James has been out of action since mid-March with a persistent hamstring issue.

James leadership and attacking threat from the flank have been sorely missed during a turbulent period for the club.

Having the club captain back for the final stretch of the campaign provides a much-needed psychological and tactical lift.

Both defenders are making their return at a crucial time of the season which their involvement could help see them win the Emirates FA Cup title against Manchester City in the coming weeks.

Despite the positive news on the defensive front, Chelsea’s squad remains stretched. McFarlane confirmed that Estêvão Willian remains out for the season with a hamstring injury.

McFarlane said: “Reece (James) is back in training and Levi (Colwill) is back in training.

“Both are looking good and we will see how it looks before the game. We are taking it day-by-day.”

“Could they be involved on Monday? “Potentially, yes.

Monday night’s fixture at Stamford Bridge represents a vital opportunity for Chelsea as their chances of playing European football next season is still unknown.

With Nottingham Forest currently enjoying a nine-game unbeaten streak, the inclusion of Colwill and James offers McFarlane the tactical flexibility needed to stifle a confident opponent.

For the Blues faithful, seeing their captain back on the pitch alongside one of England’s brightest defensive prospects is the perfect tonic for a challenging season.

Calum McFarlane remain positive and working towards ensuring they have a strong finish to the season which hasn’t been so good for them in every areas.
