Chelsea Suffer Quadruple Blow: McFarlane Confirms Injury Doubts Vs Liverpool

Calum McFarlane has confirmed major worrying news for Chelsea ahead of an important encounter against Liverpool coming up this weekend.

The World Champions are going through a little late season crisis which could hurt them hard when they lineup against Liverpool.

Mcfarlane held his press conference today which he discussed some injury concerns while talking about their upcoming games.

The Blues suffered a shocker during the week in the match against Nottingham Forest on Monday which ended in a 3-1 loss.

The interim coach was quick to discuss the loss against Nottingham Forest which he hope his side can bounce back when they take on Liverpool.

Mcfarlane said: “I understand the feelings of the fans. We are as disappointed as they are.

“We didn’t react well enough to the setbacks early on.

Meanwhile, the Chelsea coach give update concerning injured players and most especially  Jesse Derry who suffered a head injury.

McFarlane on Jesse Derry latest: “I spoke to Jesse’s dad the night it happened and the family yesterday. It’s positive.

“I don’t have the insights to go into massive details but the early signs are positive. As long as he’s healthy, that’s all that really matters.

“He’s not going to be available between now and the end of the season.

During the match against Nottingham Forest, there were some players who were missing in action, while Levi Colwill made his return.

Reece James is also one of those name who recently made his return to training. Alejandro Garnacho recently joined list of injured players alongside Robert Sanchez.

Calum McFarlane gave more insight on players expected to miss the Liverpool game and others who made their return to training.

Calum said: “We’ve got a few lads returning. Levi and Reece have trained a full week. It’s looking promising.

“We’ve still got another session – they both trained fully today.

“Neto and Garnacho are carrying knocks so they are unlikely to be available. Rob is also not going to be available.

Chelsea are expected to take on Liverpool on Saturday May 9, 2026 at the Anfield Stadium. It is expected to be a game which they need to win to keep their chances of making Europe next season.

Calum McFarlane on Liverpool challenge: “They’re a really good side. They’ve got a lot of good players and there’s lots of threats we have to be aware of.

“As the staff, you always watch the previous game from the last time you played them.

“We haven’t discussed it with the group yet but we’ve watched a lot of Liverpool games.

Chelsea need a win in their match against Liverpool before going on to face their biggest test of the season against Manchester City in the Emirates FA Cup final.
