Victor Boniface Return for Bayer Leverkusen in German Cup Semifinal

After enduring a prolonged absence due to injury, Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface made a triumphant return to action on Wednesday night during Bayer Leverkusen’s commanding 4-0 victory over Düsseldorf in the semifinal of the German Cup, played at the BayArena, MySportDab Reports.

Boniface had been sidelined for several matches, both at club and country level, including the Super Eagles’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, due to an adductor injury that required surgery.

However, in the 65th minute of Leverkusen’s dominant win over second-division side Düsseldorf, Boniface finally made his comeback, replacing Patrik Schick and marking his first appearance for the club in 2024.

Ahead of the match, comments made by Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso in a press conference hinted at Boniface’s potential involvement, indicating that while he may not have been fit for a full 90 minutes, he was expected to get approximately 30 minutes of playing time.

Despite Boniface’s limited playing time, his return was a significant moment for Leverkusen, symbolizing his resilience and determination to overcome injury setbacks.

Leverkusen had already secured a comfortable lead, courtesy of goals from Jeremie Frimpong, Amine Adli, and Florian Wirtz, sending Alonso’s men through to the final.

In his brief cameo, Boniface made an impact, showcasing glimpses of his attacking prowess with 15 touches of the ball, two key passes, and an impressive pass completion rate of 91%.

While his contribution to the game was limited, his presence on the pitch signaled a promising sign for Leverkusen as they continue their pursuit of silverware.

With Leverkusen now set to face Union Berlin in their upcoming fixture, Boniface will be eager to build on his comeback performance and make a significant impact on his return to action.

As Leverkusen aims to maintain their position at the top of the league table, Boniface’s presence adds depth to their attacking options, providing manager Xabi Alonso with more flexibility in team selection.

The Nigerian international’s return to fitness is a welcome boost for both Leverkusen and the Super Eagles, offering renewed optimism for the remainder of the season.

With his determination and talent, Boniface is poised to play a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s quest for success in the German Cup and beyond.
