BREAKING! NFF Announce New Super Eagles Head Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, have announced a new manager for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, MySportDab reports.

The African giants, who finished as runners-up in the just-concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, have been in the hunt for a new manager after Portuguese tactician, Jose Perseiro, stepped down from the role.

Peseiro led the three-time African champions to the AFCON final and was tipped to renew his contract and continue on the role before he decided to call it a quit.

Sources close to the NFF revealed a long list of managerial shortlists and applications for the top job in the Super Eagles were received with indigenous managers primed to succeed Perseiro.

Leading the list of some of the high-profile indigenous managers in the running to replace Peseiro were two former internationals – Emanuel Amuneke and Finidi George.

Now, Finidi George has beaten Emmanuel Amuneke to the top job and has been announced as the Super Eagles’ new manager.

A statement on NFF website confirming the appointment of the indigenous football veteran as Super Eagles head coach reads;

“The Board of Nigeria Football Federation on Monday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee to appoint former ace winger Finidi George as Head Coach of the Senior Men National Football Team, Super Eagles.”

The former international, who has spent a year and eight months with the team as assistant manager, working alongside former manager Jose Perseiro,  is now the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

After the exit of Jose Perseiro, he was appointed interim manager, taking charge of the Super Eagles March international friendlies.

While details of his contract are yet to be revealed, he is set to resume duties immediately and oversee the Super Eagles 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
