Newcastle Make SHOCK Move, Clash With Man United Over Dan Ashworth

Manchester United-bound Dan Ashworth is set to slug it out with Newcastle United hierarchy after he asked to leave the club, MySportDab reports.

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been on the trail of Dan Ashworth as he scours for a savant hand for a sporting director role for Manchester United.

We reported earlier Sir Jim Ratcliffe had poached an elite ex-Man City football chief Omar Berrada to Manchester United as the new CEO of the club to replace Richard Arnold.

The 71-year-old INEOS chief and petrochemical guru is not done with his reshuffling and recruitment in Man United’s sporting and footballing operations.

Dan Ashworth, who joined Newcastle United in 2022 from Brighton, is said to be his top target. United contingents have reportedly met with Dan Ashworth for a deal, and the 54-year-old, impressed with United’s project under Sir Jim, has agreed to join the Red Devils but United must agree terms with Newcastle United to sign Ashworth.

The Athletic revealed yesterday Dan Ashworth has asked to leave Newcastle United in a big boost to Man United’s interest.

Reacting to the decision, the Mail confirms he has been placed on gardening leave by the club.

MySportDab learned the placement of Dan Ashworth on gardening leave means he cannot leave Newcastle United untill 2026 when the gardening leaves expires based on the terms of his contract with the club.

However, it is understood Manchester United can still sign him anytime despite the gardening leave but must pay a significantly higher compensation to Newcastle United.

United are yet to send a proposal to Newcastle United for Dan Ashworth and there are projections if a deal is not reached with the club United may have to wait till 2026 to sign Dan Ashworth with Newcastle United footing his wages till then.

More developments are expected to unfurl in the coming days around the Dan Ashworth drama with Newcastle United amidst United interest.
