Ndidi Backs Super Eagles’ AFCON Aspirations Amidst Injury Setback

Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, sidelined by injury, expressed his elation for the Super Eagles’ successful qualification to the Round of 16 in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted in Cote d’Ivoire, MySportDab Reports.

Despite being unable to contribute on the field, Ndidi conveyed his happiness for the team’s achievement and highlighted their ambitious roadmap to clinch the AFCON title.

Speaking on SKY SPORTS, Ndidi lamented his absence from the tournament due to injury but conveyed his joy for the team’s performance.

He emphasized the meticulous planning that had gone into the Super Eagles’ AFCON campaign, outlining their strategy to win games and progress to the final.

“It was really bad for me not to be there, but I’m so happy for the team because even from last year, this is what we have been planning for the AFCON. Just try as much as possible to get to the final. We planned to win games which gets you to the next stage,” Ndidi stated.

Nigeria secured their spot in the Round of 16 by triumphing over Guinea-Bissau with a 1-0 victory, finishing second in Group A with seven points.

Ndidi’s absence on the field has not dampened his spirits, as he remains optimistic about the team’s chances in the knockout stage.

Providing an update on his injury, Ndidi mentioned that he initially anticipated a return in April. However, following a swift recovery from surgery, he expressed optimism about getting back into action at the beginning of February. When asked about the timeline for his return to playing, Ndidi confidently stated, “A couple of weeks to play.”

As the Super Eagles continue their AFCON journey, Ndidi’s unwavering support from the sidelines and his hopeful return in the near future add an intriguing subplot to Nigeria’s pursuit of continental glory.
