AFCON 2023: Guinea 0-2 Senegal, Teranga Lions Maintain 100% Start [VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]

Senegal have maintained a perfect group stage record in their 2023 AFCON campaign, MySportDab reports.

The Teranga Lions kicked off their AFCON campaign with a convincing victory over Gambia before smashing Cameroon 3-1 in their second group game.

Coming up against Guinea, who were undefeated in the group, the Teranga Lions prevailed.

It was a tough game for both sides as the Guineans hoped to weather the challenge by the defending champions and go top of the group.

Senegal, on the other hand, needed just a draw to top the group after winning their first two matches.

The two sides took the game to each other’s half with a good and composed ball play. While Senegal were on the ascendancy, they could not exercise full control of proceedings over their opponents.

Guinea gave a good account of themselves but could not create any meaningful chance throughout the game. They managed only a shot on target out of their four attempts while Senegal made 12 attempts with 2 on target.

The first half ended barren as they failed to find the back of the net but Senegal proved a better side than their opponents.

The second half started in earnest with Senegal still on the ascendancy but it was still goalless with the hour mark crossed. A minute after the hour mark, the goal deadlock was finally broken. Seck fired Senegal into a deserved lead after a marathon of pressure.

Guinea did little to mount a response but made some promising advances into Senegal’s final third. It was still a deadlock for the Guineans inside Senegal’s half as they fell easily to the Teranga Lions’ compact defense.

In the 90th minute, Senegal added to the tally to make it 2-0, thanks to Ndiaye’s strike.

The match ended with the defending champions grabbing a deserved 2-0 victory to top their group with maximum 9 points and book a place in the next round of the tournament
