Barcelona Set To Axe Ex-Chelsea Star Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso is running out of the green days of his career as he is set to be axed by Barcelona, MySportDab reports.

Alonso joined Barcelona from Chelsea in 2022 and had a stellar start to life with the Catalan club in his first season.

At the turn of the current season, Marcos Alonso’s Barcelona fortunes has taken a wild tumble with the Laliga giants ready to part ways with the player, as per Sport.

Alonso has lost his starting berth in Barcelona squad this season unlike last season when he was gelled into the team by Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez.

Xavi made Alonso a regular starter for the club in Laliga, Champions League, and other competitions.

This season, Xavi has opted for Alejandro Balde as his preferred left-back and the new order in the Catalan’s squad has thrown Alonso’s Barcelona career to the winds.

The former Chelsea star signed a two-year contract with Barcelona with a one-year extension clause.

According to Spanish outlet, Sport, Barcelona will axe Marcos Alonso from the club and will not trigger the one-year extension clause.

Marcos Alonso have only made four appearances for Barcelona so far this term. He will be expected to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Barcelona are reportedly not ready to re-evaluate their options on the player until January after reports he may be asked to take a paycut as an alternative.

Alonso made 24 La Liga appearances for Barcelona last season, scoring one goal but has won only 4 caps so far this season.

Alonso is not the only Barcelona player set to be axed at the end of the season. Sergi Roberto is also set to be axed when his contract expires at the end of this season.

They will be free to enter into pre-contract talks with interested clubs in January.
