Match Report

It was a rocky start for Liverpool in front of their home fans at Anfield as Leicester put up a solid first half display.

While the Reds wielded dominance, a strong defensive display by the visitors saw the home side scramble helplessly in the final third.

Meanwhile, Leicester City defied the odds and caught the Jurgen Klopp-led boys unawares just three minutes into the game.

The Foxes broke on a quick counter after winning possession and advanced pass the loose Liverpool defense with speed before McAteer struck to give the away side the lead.

After conceding the early, Liverpool wielded absolute dominance over the game going forward but met a brink wall defense of the Foxes and sweat to break through the final third with no avail.

Leicester City, who are flying high in Championship, gave a good account of themselves foiling Liverpool’s attacking attempt with ease in the final third.

While sitting back to defend, the Foxes made rare threatening forays upfront to double the lead but could not add to the tally.

Nevertheless, it was still a sensational first half effort by the visitors as they ended up taking the narrow 1-0 lead into the first half break.

Jurgen Klopp could be spotted rushing back to the dressing before the players disappeared into the tunnel after the first half break.

It appears the German tactician got his axes right as Liverpool stepped up play in the second half and were able to nailed home an equaliser just three minutes into the second half.

Cody Gakpo struck for the Reds in the 48th minute thanks to a brilliant assist by new signing from Bayern Munich Gravenberch.

The home side continued to dominate proceedings after leveling the score as they looked set to complete a turnaround.

In the 70th minute, Szosboszlai completed the turnaround for Liverpool, scoring to make it 2-1 before Diogo Jota sealed the win in the 89th minute as the Reds ran out with a 3-1 win to oust the Foxes from the EFL Cup.
