Andre Onana Returns To Cameroon National Team After World Cup Clash!

Andre Onana has been called back to Cameroon national team after the 2022 World Cup squabble, MySportDab reports.

Recall Onana and Cameroon national team manager Rigobert Song, clashed at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar over irreconcilable differences.

Rigobert Song, who is himself a former Cameroon national team player, criticized Andre Onana for his goalkeeping tactics.

He reportedly asked Onana to be more reserved when with the ball not trying to advance off the goal line as he usually does but stay stuck in goal during matches.

Onana insisted on continuing on his playing style of playing more out of the goalkeeper box and advancing forward.

Due to the building tension between the two, Onana started only two matches for Cameroon in World Cup and was axed off the squad in the last match against Brazil.

Before Cameroon wrapped up their World Cup matches in Qatar, Onana was removed from the squad and flown back home.

Speaking after the clash that saw him bundled out of the tournament by Rigobert Song, Andre Onana said the soiled relationship with Rigobert Song was irreversible as he could not return back to the national team.

A month after the fracas, Andre Onana took to his social media handle to announce his retirement from Cameroon national team.

It was evident his decision to call time on his national team career was due to the faceoff with Rigobert Song at the tournament.

Now, there is a U-turn on the soiled relationship as Onana has been recalled back to Cameroon national team by Rigobert Song.

It is still unclear when the two sorted out their differences but the official list of players called by Cameroon for their AFCON Qualifiers has featured the Man United star alongside two other goalkeepers.

Onana has impressed on his club career since the World Cup squabble, winning a domestic double with Inter Milan on his Serie A debut from Ajax and reaching the final of 2023 UEFA Champions League.

He completed a big move to Manchester United this summer after his standout performance with Inter Milan.
