FT: Argentina 0-2 Nigeria, Flying Eagles Qualify For U-20 WC Q-Finals (VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS)

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina after eliminating the host in round 16, MySportDab reports.

First Half Report

It was a masterclass performance by the Flying Eagles of Nigeria as they brave the odds to eliminate the host and tournament favorites Argentina.

The Flyings were on a front foot from the start but were largely overwhelmed by the host in terms of possession.

It was a tight game with both sides making frantic efforts and attempts on goal but they could not break the deadlock.

Argentina wielded more possession of the ball and were basking with the support of a well-packed stadium filled with the home fans but they could not rattle the sturdy Nigeria backline.

The match continued till the first half break with the two sides unable to break the goal deadlock.

Second Half Report

Nothing changed in the second half of the game as both sides filed out into the pitch.

Nigeria still played second fiddle to the host on ball possession but maintained their cutting edge attacking threats when breaking on counter attacks.

Against the run of play, the Flying Eagles latch on one of their rare chances to score the opening goal and take the lead.

Muhammad gave Nigeria the lead a minute after the hour mark to edge the team close to the quarterfinal.

Argentina then made attempts to quickly level the scores all to no avail as Nigeria put up a great effort at the defense to maintain the lead.

In stoppage-time, Argentina’s comeback hopes was dealt a final with Sarki’s diving header which doubled the lead for the Flying Eagles.

It was game over for the host and a deserved win for Nigeria as they finally ran out with a 2-0 win to qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition.
