First Half Report

It was Real Madrid dominating play as the first half began.

The defending champions needed a win to move close to Barcelona who had opened a 9-point gap on the league table.

The Merengues dominated play and made the game a difficult one for Espanyol from the start.

Shockingly, they conceded first against the run of play with Joselu scoring the opening goal for the away side just 8 minutes into the game.

Real Madrid ramped up their attempts to find an equaliser after conceding the shock goal and trailing by a lone goal.

Espanyol seemed to make no effort going forward again after taking the lead as they come under intense pressure from the European champions.

Twenty-two minutes into the game, Vinicius Jr dropped Real Madrid’s curtain-raiser after an assist from Toni Kroos.

Vinicius’ strike leveled the scores, bringing the scoreline to a 1-1 draw with more minutes remaining into the first half.

Espanyol broke loose of their all-man defense and began to come out to attack after conceding.

Just at the cusp of the end of the first half, Militao struck in the 39th minute to put Real Madrid in the lead, coming from a goal down.

After taking the lead, Real Madrid continued to dominate play till the end of the first half.

Second Half Report

The second half nearly went barren despite Real Madrid still dominating play and controlling the game.

Espanyol rarely attempted an effort upfield and were pressed to their own half throughout the second half of the game.

After a marathon of pressure by Real Madrid, the Los Blancos finally secured the win with a stoppage-time strike by Asensio in the 93rd minute.

The match ended with Real Madrid grabbing a deserved 3-1 win over Espanyol to move close to Barcelona in the LaLiga title race.
