Luis Enrique Talks ”One Flop” He Took To The World Cup (Details)

Former Spain head coach has revealed one flop that he took to the World Cup that he has regretted, MySportDab reports.

After the 7-0 defeat of Costa Rica, Spain ended up not winning the next three games in the World Cup.

They drew with Germany and suffered a shock defeat to Japan before heading to the knockout of the tournament, where they faced Morocco.

The 2010 champions lost on penalty shootouts to Morocco after settling for a goalless draw with the Atlas Lions.

After winning the tournament in 2010, Spain have crashed out of the same stage of the tournament on two occasions now.

After the round of 16 loss to Morocco, Luis Enrique was sacked, with Luis De La Fuente emerging as his replacement.

When asked on Twitch on Mondy what he should have done that he did not do, Luis Enrique said he regrets picking one player for the World Cup.

‘One player, but I won’t say the name. One player didn’t end up being what I thought, and I would have changed him for another player,’ he said.

The former Barcelona manager went on to heap praises on Pedri, saying Pedri surprised him with his skills, character, and composure.

Asked about any player he would have given much time to play, Luis Enrique mentioned PSG’s Sarabia, saying he did not do justice to Ligue 1 star.

According to him, Sarabia would have been given much chance to play, especially in the knockout against Morocco.

While Luis Enrique refused to mention the name of the flop he picked for the World Cup, his statement offers a clue about the flop he is referring to in the team.

Spain were largely criticized for their one-dimensional football geared towards winning possessions without  creating and converting chances – a strategy that proved costly against the Atlas Lions.
