Despite not having enough game time in Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United, yesterday was the worst experience.

For the first time this season, Cristiano Ronaldo was left on the bench through the whole 90 minutes of play.

When asked about his decision to keep Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench in the high-profile Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium, Erik Ten Hag gave a response that has been deemed controversial by significant pundits.

According to the Dutch tactician, he kept Ronaldo on the bench ‘out of respect for his big career.’

Ten Hag also added that he had another choice too instead of Ronaldo; that is bringing in Anthony Martial, who ‘needed the minutes’ since returning from injury.

Meanwhile, Roy Keane has blasted the former Ajax manager for keeping Ronaldo on the bench throughout the mu h anticipated derby at Etihad.

Contrary to Erik Ten Hag’s assertion that he respected the career of the five-times Ballon d Or winner by keeping him on the bench, Roy Keane admitted that the decision was misguided.

According to him, Erik Ten Hag rather disrespected Ronaldo by choosing not to bring him into the match.

Speaking with SkySports after the game, Roy Kean said;

” The idea that Ronaldo did not have options in the transfer summer is rubbish. Ronaldo had like four or five choices, but Erik Ten Hag kept hold of him, not allowing him to move. Ronaldo is the greatest player ever; you don’t keep hold of him and keep him on the bench.

“United have shown nothing but disrespect to Cristiano Ronaldo, ” he added.

Manchester United lost the Manchester Derby 6-3, with Haaland and Foden scoring hat-tricks each.

The win takes Manchester City to a point from Premier League leaders Arsenal with Manchester United recording their third defeat of the season.
