At the time of filing this report, it is still unclear why Rooney has decided to quit his job.

However, MySportDab understands that the Rams underwent a series of challenges in the just-concluded season.

Their points were deducted, and they also landed in the relegation waters after the 2021-22 Championships campaign.

Rooney was optimistic and bent on still coaching the team despite their relegation to League One.

His resolve to change his mind may come as a surprise to the club.

After the abysmal performance, it was confirmed that all Derby County defenders and goalkeepers were out of contract.

But in a sheer show of optimism, they had all indicated interest to remain at the club.

Derby County was also reportedly hit saddled with a massive debt crisis.

They had reportedly borrowed money to finance the appeal against point deduction and also foot outstanding bills.

The sudden resignation of Wayne Rooney may serve as an additional setback to the club.

Derby County finished the 2021-23 Championships campaign in the 23rd position with 34 points

They scored 45 goals and conceded 53, and were the team with the lesser goal difference compared to other clubs in the bottom 4.
