"Kane, Rashford Injuries Not Surprising" - Man City Coach Pep Guardiola Wants Carabao Cup Scrapped

Manchester City Coach Pep Guardiola believes that the Carabao Cup competition must be scrapped, MySportDab reports.

Pep Guardiola has revealed the FA and Premier League’s hectic domestic schedule is killing England’s chances of success on the international stage.

And his idea to give Gareth Southgate’s team a fighting chance on the international stage is to scrap the Carabao Cup.

MySportDab understands the Spanish manager wants a rethink after long-term serious injuries to strikers Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane dealt England a blow ahead of this year's Euro 2020.

“With the hectic number of matches we have sooner or later the players break down. With this amount of matches it happens, the people in charge cannot complain,” he said.

“But it’s just too much.

“The long-term injuries to Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford is a big blow for the England national team. I think the English team already have enough injuries so hopefully they not have another one.”

Guardiola has no doubt the hectic domestic fixture list puts England behind compared to other Leagues in Europe.

“Sooner or later the players get tired,” he said.

“It’s just too much and I'm sorry for them, they should do something but they don’t care.”

Despite the fact Manchester City have won the Carabao Cup in four of the last six seasons and are set for a third straight final next month, Guardiola has suggested the competition should be scrapped.

“We have to scrape competitions, remove them completely so fewer matches and if you choose to make the League Cup just for the Championship teams or League One and Two then it won't look good.

“In the German Bundesliga there are 18 teams not 20, not two cups just one and they also get a break. In Spain, they also get a break, the Cup is one and simple.

“It’s a huge difference which protects the players. I don’t run, I can be tired. For them they’d enjoy it alot more, the people too. Surely many people can live without football for a while. It’s crazy.”

He added: “Or Maybe the right solution is you have to make a year of 400 days! But even if this happened, then UEFA or FIFA would probably face challenges with another competition.”
