Tennis: Serena puts legend King in her place, says equality is her cause

Serena Williams rebuked Billie Jean King, a fellow legend who said she was supposed to concentrate on tennis and stop acting like a Pop Star and pushing for change.

US player Serena Williams reacts after a point against Romania's Simona Halep.

On the Wimbledon Final on Saturday (July 13th), king-who was not foreign to struggle for equality for female players when she had begun, may feel justified.

Serena who had easily beaten Simona Halep in the previous 9 times the pair met, was shocked when she was beaten 6-2, 6-2 in the space of 1 hour.

King had said it would be possible for her staff to handle a business, to take care of a child, and to fight for equality for women and ethnic minorities, while she focused on playing Tennis for a few years.

In an interview with BBC earlier this year, the 75-year old said " Williams should stop acting like a celebrity for just a year: "just stop all this craziness".

Serena Williams gave a clap back on Saturday

The 37-year old replied: "The day I stop fighting for equality and for people that look like you and me will be the day I'm in my grave,"

King went on social media to tweet her reply: "I would never ask anyone to stop fighting for equality".
"In everything she does, Serena shines a light on what all of us must fight for in order to achieve equality for all."

On court, Saturday was the third blowout in a year that Williams failed to win a record 24 Grand Slam titles from the Australian Margaret Court.
