"We Were Too Defensive" - Lewandowski Slams Bayern Munich Tactics

Striker Robert Lewandowski has slammed Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac after his team lost 3-1 against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Bayern were soundly beaten at the Allianz Arena and managed just two shots on target.

They did, however, have the lion’s share of the possession, and made more passes than the visitors.

But they failed to create enough chances, and didn’t make them count when they did.

Their only goal came after Joel Matip turned into his own net from a cross from Serge Gnabry.

Liverpool, on the other hand, were clinical in front of goal, with Sadio Mane scoring twice and Virgil van Dijk completing the scoring.

And Lewandowski, who had a quiet nightin front of goal and was forced to continually drop deeper during the game, criticised Kovac for his tactical approach.

“In the first game we didn't make a good risk to play forward and try to score the goal,” he said to BEIN Sports.

“Today also I think we didn't try to play offensive and try to score the goal because we didn't have a lot of chances also and that was our problem today.

“We were playing at home but that wasn't our game today and that's why Liverpool beat us.

“I’m not happy, I'm angry because we know we should do better but we didn’t.”

Bayern’s last Champions League triumph came in 2013 as they defeated Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, but since then they have never been able to get across the line in Europe.
