"World Rankings No Longer Really The Priority" - Roger Federer

Tennis Legend Roger Federer has said that the world rankings are no longer a priority for him.

The 37-year-old is in the final stages of his glistening career and could potentially call it time at the end of this season.

Federer remains hungry to win more titles despite having to take extra rest to ensure he can still perform at the highest level.

He was beaten in disappointing circumstances in Melbourne last month by Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

“For me the ranking, at 37 years old, is no longer really the priority,” he said at the Laver Cup launch in Geneva.

“But the idea for me is to be in good health, to know that I can win tournaments, to know that I can beat [Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal] and after that it is a pleasure.

“Even if my ranking goes down further, it’s not a problem for me. As long as I say I can win a grand slam as I did two years ago with a world ranking of 17, everything is in place.

“I prefer to be ranked 17th than third and not win a grand slam or tournament.”

Federer was making his first public appearances since the loss to Tsitsipas.

He was alongside Bjorn Borg at Palais Eynard in front of a packed crowd who were trying to get their hands on tickets for the tournament.

Federer is set to team up with rival Nadal just as he did in 2017 in Prague.
